Enya is a successful professional living a seemingly perfect life with her husband Xander and son Finn. On the surface, she has what most people would wish for in her life. The problem is, Enya has demons that she hasn’t faced and for this reason, her life takes a turn for the unexpected.
Whilst out driving one night in a storm, she is flagged down by Oscar, a stranger on the road, looking for help as a boy has been hit and needs medical support.
Enya’s life unravels at this point and she decides she can no longer live the life she has. Starting a new chapter in her life, she quickly realises that maybe the past is not that easy to leave behind?
I struggled to get into this book, despite wanting to love it. I’m not someone who gives up on a book, so it took me a few days to get to grips with the characters and plot. I am really glad I did as I enjoyed the book in the end and am pleased to have finished it.
I liked Enya, despite thinking I wouldn’t at the beginning of the book. The relationship she had with her son Finn was interesting and it really made me question what decisions I would have made if I were in her shoes at times. I could understand why she made some of the decisions she did and I could also see that she was putting everyone else before herself, which you would do as a devoted wife and mother.
Margaret was the real gem of a character for me and without her, I feel the book may have been a bit flat. She brought the story to life and the addition of her brought a great extra dimension to the book. I would have liked to have found out more about her and her story but I also feel another book could be made with her as a central character.
Overall I am glad I read this book and I really enjoyed the underlying story that ran through the book.
