How to rekindle your business romance
There may be times in the growth of your business when you challenge your sanity! Sales may have plateaued, business as usual may not be exciting anymore, you may be beginning to feel out of your depth or that precious work/life balance may still be eluding you. So, what do you do? Try the suggestions below.
You are not an island
Get help. People who are successful in business don’t do it by themselves. They are constantly learning from others. They attribute their success to their team and support network. They love what they do because they are always developing. So, what do you need to do?
1. Get a coach
If you’re feeling stuck or at a crossroads with your business or personal life, a coach is invaluable. They will schedule a set of sessions to help you overcome specific obstacles. Each session will set goals to be completed by the next. If you feel you need focus and clarity in your professional and personal life, this might be the perfect solution for you.
2. Find a mentor
This isn’t so easy. A mentoring relationship is a long term one and not one that you pay for. They are often a senior person in the same company or industry happy to share their knowledge to progress your career and personal development. For example, the late Steve Jobs (Apple Inc. CEO) mentored Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg. Mentors can open doors to new opportunities for you and are there to give support and guidance to prepare for future roles and development.
3. Hire a consultant
It’s impossible for you to have an objective view of your business. Consultants work in many different businesses and have a wider view of the market. They are able to see new opportunities and implement new strategies that you are unable to see because you have become business-as-usual-blind! If you are in a state of flux or have hit a plateau, a strategic marketing or business consultant is what you need. They will evaluate the current situation and create goals and strategies to grow your business in the direction you want to take it.
4. Find your tribe
Surrounding yourself with positive people who believe in what you’re doing is a must. There are enough challenges running a company without you having to listen to Negative Nancy! Engage with positive, energised ‘doers’ who are really excited about your business and where you want to take it.
